Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO - A Birthday Gift

My friend Jason gifted me the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO 250 Ohms version for my birthday back in December 2021, and I thought it would be awesome to bring it out and get some shots, for no good reasons. I take photos of things just for fun, and sometimes I don't have to justify it. Sometimes it is the act of shooting, the whole process of making the images happen that I enjoy the most. I don't need to travel to some exotic location or do anything crazy for a photoshoot, I am a simple man, and simple every day things I find a lot of joy in shooting them.

I have not owned a pair of high impedance headphones before. The highest impedence was probably only 40 Ohms, and 250 Ohms is really stretching it. I have no portable amplifiers powerful enough to drive them effectively. Thankfully, I have an entry level integrated amplifier (home hi-fi) Yamaha A-S300 which is rated to have enough power to drive even a 470 Ohms headphones. I have been using the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO in my room, plugged into the Yamaha A-S300 ever since and wow, what a revelation it was!

I never understood the appeal of having a high impedance headphones until recently. The sound is just effortlessly open, natural and spaciously full. There is room for every detail, layer and sound to breathe and I enjoy the overall presentation. I have always used closed back headphones or in ear monitors, so having an open back is something different, and different is always welcomed. I guess audio is personal and without running a risk to turn this space into an audiophile blog, I shall stop here and conclude that I enjoy the Beyerdynamic DT 990 PR) tremendously.

Jason Lioh thanks man for the gift, much appreciated!

Bokehhhhhhh

We had some Korean Food at Gangnam88 in Mon't Kiara

That was probably too much food for two persons. But I eat a lot.

I am a meat lover.

More bokeh goodness

In case you have not figured out, my other interest is audio, but I try not to dive too deep into that world. At least if I do invest in cameras and lenses I can recover the costs when I do photography jobs with the gear I have purchased, or make content on YouTube. Anything spent on audio however, goes down into the void of nothingness and do not get me wrong, I enjoy high fidelity's sound, I just don't see how I can spend that kind of crazy money into it.

  1. Congratulations!

Good headphones are very valuable for the wonderful world of music, especially in small rooms, in flats where we don't want to annoy our neighbourhood or just to lay down and don't have to take care of the perfect place in the stereo triangle.

Friends who gift with care and knowledge what we like are just priceless.

    Enjoy the music!
