More Adventures with the Olympus PEN-F

So I have a few days of Chinese New Year holidays and I have spent them all with plenty of sleep, catching up with friends, watching a few movies (I have caught Deadpool and it was FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!), read a book and more importantly, I have brought the new PEN-F out to the streets for some shutter therapy!

Unlike previous sessions of using the PEN-F, this time I was not shooting with it for review purposes. There were no particular objectives to be met, and I did not have a set of guidelines to follow, hence I was shooting any subjects that caught my attention, just like how I normally would on my weekly street hunting sessions. It was a different experience shooting with the PEN-F just for myself, and quite frankly I must say this is one great street photography machine. I had some small and fast prime lenses with me, M.Zuiko 12mm F2, 25mm F1.8 and 45mm F1.8.

Instead of my usual go super close and shoot tight portraits of strangers, I decided to step back a lot more this time, and use wider angle lenses. Always, always be experimenting with new concepts and compositions, and who cares if they don't work, you will never find anything new until you try them out!

Good Morning KL
Woke up early on the second day of CNY and shot this Sunrise scene. I was lucky that the weather was good, and I managed to capture the starburst effect!

This shot was taken with Oneplus One.

I hope you have enjoyed the much wider perspective of my shutter therapy photos!

I know it is only mid-week now, but I cannot wait to use the PEN-F again this coming weekend.

Olympus PEN-F is available from B&H (click here).

  4. Some great pics in there. Ciggy Break is pretty awesome, I love the sense of isolation the architecture gives the people while capturing them "together".

  5. Nice images! Are these JPGs SOOC, or were you able to shoot RAW? I know you typically don't do much tweaking, but would like to know more about your workflow.

    1. Thanks Armin! I was lucky a guy with bright red shirt walked by. Else, it would have been less striking.

    1. Hah that is because I selected the best shots from 3 separate outings, which was only possible during CNY holidays! No luck in my usual short sessions.

  13. Nice pictures as always Robin. De picture called Yellow Doors seems to show distortion at the bottom. Is that the 12mm lens or a curve in the pavement?

Wonderful pictures and commentary. Had a brief hands on with the camera this morning. Can't what to get one later this year when funds permit.
It will be a great companion for my 17mm f1.8 now on my EP-1.
    Olympus shooter since 1984 (OM-3).

  15. Great shots! Discovered your blog a few days ago, and have been reading through many of your posts. Picked up a silver PEN-F last night. It's supposed to actually be a nice warm weekend (first time after weeks of miserable cold), so I'm excited to get out and shoot with my new toy.

  16. Yo Robin,

I only just now discovered, while scanning through the blog entry above, that you own a copy of my street photography book! I am flattered that you included not just one, but two photos of it. That must explain the sudden spike in sales and my resulting ability to retire early. (Dreaming. Sorry.) Would it surprise you to know that I too am an Olympus camera owner? My tool of choice is the OM-D E-M10 Mark II, but a Pen F might also join the family. Stranger things have happened. Best regards, Gordon Lewis
