Soon

I can't wait already!

Taken from Matilda Bay, Perth in 2007, just after my undergraduate studies in UWA.

There was a night I could not sleep at all, and I stayed awake until dawn. Then I walked to the nearby riverside, with my old compact point and shoot Kodak Easyshare CX-7430 (4MP, 3x zoom) and an al-cheapo China brand tripod. This was my one and only sunrise photography.

I think I might just do this again soon, at the exact same spot I did 6 years ago. This time, with a BETTER camera.

  1. Maybe not a gazillion pixels from some high-ISO monster, but a GREAT shot! I can't wait to see you do this again with more capable equipment.

  2. This is a nice photo Robin. Being at the same place with better equipment doesn't necessarily mean you'll end up with better photos, but I wish you luck.

Thanks, but I am not sure if I can wake up that early !!

  3. That's a great sunrise photo, Robin. I was surprised to even spot the crescent moon in the upper left corner. If you are heading down to Australia, I hope that you have time to do more shooting than just a single sunrise photo!

    1. Hey Greg,
I wanted to include the moon, but accidentally fitted a few leaves of a tree above me. I could have cropped that off but I thought of leaving it there to show my own mistake. I wonder why no one mentioned that!

  6. Nice shot! We do have some nice sunrises in Perth though I find sunsets a bit more reliable. I live 5 minutes from the beach so I can watch the colour develop from home and rush off at the last moment to get a shot :-)

    1. Hello Jan,
I miss Perth ever clear and beautiful sky so much !!
I only shot the sunrise once and I was lucky the sky was rather dramatic. Yes, Perth has some of the nicest beaches. I used to go to Cottesloe Beach, definitely my favourite.

    Robin

You will be returning as a better photographer, and that will make more of a difference than the better equipment.
The real important element will be the lighting.

    Best of luck!
