Side Note: I know I have taken lots of pictures in this session, but some of them come out horribly. If you do not see yourself here, it means that picture must have been blurred beyond salvation. It does not mean I do not love you !!
I have just got home from a party a couple of hours ago at the Victoria Arms (in Merdeka Palace Hotel). The event was a launching party for the local Breeze Magazine, and the first one and a half hour event from 8.00pm to 9.30pm was closed to guests by invitations only. After 9.30pm, the party was open to the public with a door fee.
IRENE LAW from http://www.irenelaw.com

I have spotted this event about a month ago at Fahrie's blog, and registered myself there. Initially there were 20 other bloggers registered, and confirmed their attendance. Due to certain last minute changes, it was decided that the list of 20 bloggers to be cut down to 10 only !! Quite a number of bloggers being cut off were actually the ones I knew quite well, namely Allen, Frankie, Rose Wong, JF, M, and Calvin. But the most unexpected part, I was somehow miraculously still on the list. Hence, I made it there for the event.
I went to the event rather early, and the table allocated for bloggers was labelled "media", which was quite flattering ! Our spot was located very near to the stage, but inauspiciously blocked by a fat pillar to the front of the stage.
OPENING DANCE PERFORMANCE
I would say that the choice of Victoria Arms for the Launching was a good one, since it provided the atmosphere of partying and dancing scenes. Here goes by "but": .... but to hold a fashion show, in an almost non existing stage, with no runway, and under such awful lighting conditions was not blending the entire setup well. I do think that having the models doing a fashion parade was a brilliant highlight of the night, but the glamor and spark just could not be delivered without proper presentation. The models were lovely, their posing and wardrobe choices were nothing short of impressive, just that the whole thing lacked the usual magazine-fashion-show-party kind of feel and mood under such inappropriate setup.
FASHION PARADE
The fashion show was performed by the participants of the Model Search organized by Breeze Magazine. There were 24 participants for female models, as well as another 24 participants for male models. I did not manage to snap individual pictures of all the models, and I have missed out a lot of opportunities due to the poor position I was shooting from. And the choices of the models being displayed here has nothing to do with my preference, but mostly due to the usability of the photo-output which I managed to salvage from the so many broken ones. I do find a lot of the models very pretty, and coming from Kuching, I dare say that I am proud to be born here !!!
One of the joy of attending such events that involve bloggers would be the chance to meet up and catch up with other bloggers !! Based on the initial list of bloggers (which has not been cut down yet) I actually knew more than half of the bloggers attending the party, hence it would have been the perfect setting and timing to meet up and say hi to everyone. That would save me much fuss of finding people one by one, since my time in Kuching is extremely limited anyway. After the list has been truncated, fortunately there are still some familiar faces !!
There was Irene Law, whom I have known since my early blogging days. She is one active blogger who always runs around covering events in Kuching. She does not seem to be able to run out of things to blog about !! I hate going to her blog and eventually become a rare thing for me to do now, because everything she blogs about reminds me badly of Kuching !! And I do admit I get homesick from time to time.
There were quite a few people that I have met that night, namely Norman, Fahrie and Cyril. Unfortunately I did not get much chance to talk to Norman and Fahrie, since they were running around busying themselves with the things that they are supposed to be busying themselves with for the event. I did however, get to know Cyril better. I have only started to visit his blog very recently, and he has been too generous in complimenting my nearly non-existent photography skills !! He came with sweet and lovely Amiey. It was great knowing another awesome Kuching blogger, and he has got one really cool profession too !!
On photography side of things, it was not easy snapping pictures in such dim condition. I also did not stress myself up like usual, but rather just took it easy and prioritize enjoying the event itself. I spent more time sitting down and chatting away rather than going trigger happy which was a nice shift of things. Most of the time flash was employed with a diffuser adapted, and I tried to capture the ambient light too to bring out the feeling of being there.

NAOMI WINNING THE BOTTLE INSTEAD
So did I enjoy the night? Minus a little fuss there and here regarding the invitations being cut down and the whole thing about a fashion show was not exactly a fashion show at all, I have to say it was one event well thought-out of, and well organized. The crowd was immensely entertained, and the beautiful music just raved the whole atmosphere. It was definitely a good way to project what the Breeze Magazine is all about.
CYRIL WITH THE 2CDS and errmmm..... errmm..
I guess I am becoming too old for this kind of things. I have made up my mind not to drink, and I am proud I faithfully declined the tempting offer of free drink by the evil Mike. I have also distanced myself from the party zone, though I can still find myself shaking to the dance groove. I guess we all have to change in one way or another, and I see myself growing out of this phase of life, which may not be such a bad thing after all.
People wonder how I can survive and save up living in KL. Easy. I do not party, and I do not drink. Why don't I do such things
You people are so fast! Robin, do send me photos with me, I don't have a single photo of myself in my camera ;p
