I have always thought that night photography would be an interesting thing to immerse myself into, provided I have the time, patience, and the right "mood" to perform it. Nope, I have had not much experience in night pictures, but there is just something about taking photos at night that you do not get in other kinds of photography categories. The bright lights against the black/dark background... the majesty of the landscape...
I am lucky to be in Perth, and there are plenty of places to go for taking pictures at night. The city itself spans a magnificent, yet humble skyline which I have blogged like so many times before, and those of you who have been following me for some time must have gotten bored of my Perth City Night pictures. Nevertheless, I have chosen a different spot this time, and it is at the one place that many Aussies would frequent to waste their time away.... The Burswood Entertainment Center !!
THE GARDEN OUTSIDE
THE LANDMARK
So what's there at Burswood? A boring golf course (Ok, Marcus is gonna kill me for this) A few very prestigious world class hotels, a few really fancy restaurants with magnificent landscape window views, some great pubs and nightclus, and of course, the first, one and only casino in the entire Western Australia... Burswood Casino !!! Though there is nothing to shout about this casino, it is definitely a popular spot for the locals.
THE CASINO
THE NIGHTCLUB
I have not been to Burswood for that many times, mainly because it is not that convenient to take buses and trains, and I am trying my best to resist throwing money pointlessly to the casino. I tell you, there is something in the casino that tempts you to play. There could be something mysteriously evil working there, but yeah, the best thing is try not to enter it. I am not a gambling kind of person anyway.
CASINO MAIN ENTRANCE
HOTEL ENTRANCE
From the first time I stepped foot in Burswood, until now, I am still quite amazed with the whole architectural and design value of the main hotel. I am talking about the exterior, and the interior as well. From the lobby area, you can view all the way to the top floor of the building, and with ceiling that high, they sure managed to make a hell of a display !!! Just check out the decorations on the ceiling...
HOTEL INTERIOR
THE COLOR CHANGES !!!
On the whole, I am generally satisfied with the turnout of the night pictures from this trip. Nevertheless, there is much I need to learn, and much to improve on in terms of skills and compositions. As you may have noticed, some of the pictures got a little bit disoriented, some even senget at one side. I was a little rushed since it was getting late, and the night was very cold !!!! Not to mention my camera also has a number of undesirable limitations. No worries, i just need to dive in more, and familiarize myself with night time shooting.
THE HOTEL FROM A DISTANCE
ANOTHER ENTRANCE
It was a rewarding night for me. Taking photos have always been rewarding, though my pictures are no where near what you would call professional. Heck, I believe I do not have to be a professional to take good pictures, and I do not need DSLR which would not be possible for me to bring where ever I want to go to. Mobility and compactness are two very essential qualities in camera that I strongly seek, which I have mentioned in my previous photography based entries.
Thats all for now folks, hope you guys enjoy the glimpse of Burswood at night in Perth, through my camera lens !!

Am I the Marcus you are talking about? If I am, no lah - why I kill you for?! I think golf courses are boring too. Heh.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. These are taken with a new camera or your trusty old one with a tripod?
hey marcus,
ReplyDeleteno no, im referring to another marcus who always comments anonymously, was a good friend but he left perth.
he loves golf !!! ahahahhaa..
anyway, you are sharp !! yeap, I had a new cam, with full manual functions. That explains the better pictures, though still have plenty to improve on.
Oh and I used a tripod lar... my hand is not rock !!!
ReplyDeleteBurswood used to have the best dimsums in Perth, but oh so pricey. Do they still serve dimsums in the chinese restaurant?
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures again. Burswood is really near where I live, I pretty much have to drag my sis away from the casino, I'm afraid she'll go crazy on the slots! But I guess I'll have to bring her soon *sigh* how can come to Perth and not visit the Casino right?
ReplyDeletehey millyvanilly,
ReplyDeleteActually I have not tried any of their restaurants before, and as I am still living a life as a student (though Im working now) I just do not think anything there would be affordable for me anytime soon !!
hey di,
Thanks !! yeah, its a good idea not to go in the casino, its hard to resist the urge to try out the games.
i'm calling police..there's this guy taking pictures of the complex, looks like surveillance to plan a terrorist attack!
ReplyDeletehey wuching,
ReplyDeletein fact, the security guards were waving and smiling at me.
i'm gonna kill u robin! hahaha! ya i sense a noticeable difference in your photos these days. colours are much bolder! what camera is it? burswood really really looks beautiful at night! looking at those shots really makes me feel as though im right there walking under those lights like old times! thanks for a great post robin!
ReplyDelete-Marcus
hey marcus,
ReplyDeleteIts another budget cam, LOL, kodak c875, which I bought for only 220 bucks (discounted from 399 bucks !!).
since the camera is still new, im still not that good at using it. need more practise !!
certainly the outside has changed a lot since i was a student there. yes, the dim sum is very good. long lines on weekends but go early. it's a great experience. don't eat @ Fui Yip, Williams Street nia. (if that shop is still there, har! har!) gotta try something new at least once ;))) i think the casino many, many years ago started as a joint venture with the Genting Group but now bought over by the late Kerry Packer's company - PBL, something like that. nice pics, btw!
ReplyDeletehey serenity,
ReplyDeletethanks !! Wah i never knew they were connected to genting once perviously.... I myself have never been to genting, I think any singaporean would laugh at me for this.
There are many good dim sum places at northbridge now, some even closed down over my years here...
wow everyone seems to be raving about the dim sum! i should make it a point to try it when i return to perth! genting is boring zzzzzzz! the theme park there is nothing great and the casino isn't as majestic as burswood! on top of that the journey up is so dangerous!
ReplyDelete-Marcus
hey marcus,
ReplyDeleteYou serious?? I have always thought genting is bigger and grander !! ahahaha.. oh well, Ive not been there, so have to go and have a look myself.
yeah, the trip up there is super hazardous... many bad accidents happened over the years, and many more that never made it to the press.
hey! i'm going to cali this weekend and won't be back until september...here is the website i was talking about where i made extra summer cash. Later! the website is here
ReplyDeleteahh Burswood, the casino owes me 350AUD :/
ReplyDeletehey akho,
ReplyDeleteoh u have a history with the casino !! what happened?
Robin... I is jealous of your photos... AGAIN. Erm, can you teach me how to use my camera?? lol
ReplyDeletehey nadia,
ReplyDeleteI would be glad to share some tips, but actually I am just a beginner, many things to learn still !!!
We must catch up soon, over coffee or lunch !!
you've always known that i love your photography skills.
ReplyDeletei'm just remindind you - just in case it slipped your mind - that you're fab.
heheh. ooh, new cam eh? what make and model did you get?
hey aaron,
ReplyDeleteaiya, dun say until like that mar, later i kembang hidung !! ahahahha..
but yeah, like i mentioned in the other comment replies, there is still plenty for me to learn.
I am now using kodak c875, 8Mp and the reason why I got it is because it has a massive discount.
After conversion, Rm600 only.
I think its a great deal, and the picture quality is quite satisfactory too !!
