On the eighth day of CNY2007, just the day after the Kuching Bloggers Meet (click), I had the privilege to be invited to go visiting with Luxferi, Jee and Alex to Francis Ho’s house. I have wanted to visit him, but have been extremely busy with family and old friends that I have not had much extra time on my hands. Thank goodness Francis still has an open house, and the visit was truly a remarkable one!!
Unker Francis Ho’s house is just, out of the ordinary and amazingly special. Why special?
There is a river nearby.
The platform leading to the river
The river and the jetty that are always featured on Fh2o is actually closer to the house than I expected. There is even a custom constructed platform leading to the river, and the surrounding environment of trees and greens are just as warm as Francis’ hospitality itself!!
You can Kayak in that river anytime!
Camwhoring near the river...
Provided that Francis is the Kayak King in Kuching, the river provides such unquestionable convenience for him and his hobby. Of course, he has all the necessary equipments ready, including the safety jackets, kayaks, paddles, and all the basic necessities required to have a wonderful kayak experience!!
The house is a little bit of a botanical garden.
Not only that the surrounding environment feels like a mild tropical jungle, the entire garden of the house was carefully, and extensively been decorated with rare plants and trees.
The house is a little bit of a holiday resort.
Besides the feeling one with nature atmosphere, there are interesting native decors around, similar to those you can find at cultural village, or most prominently at Damai Beach Resort! Look at the pillars, for a moment there we all thought Francis stole the pillar from Damai Beach. Probably he sneaked in Damai through the rivers, and quickly grabbed some of the pillars, and quietly kayak-ed his way back to his home via the river!!
Warm and inviting interiors
Alright, enough of the outside already. Once we stepped in the house, Luxferi could not help herself but be amazed by the interior decors and setup. There was a touch of modern feel, but at the same time maintaining the homely comfort and somehow, all of us automatically felt “lazy” and just wanted to relax and stay there, for a long, long time. The ambience was so warm and welcoming, that I could not help but capturing the pictures of Jee and Luxferi together.
I do not have to take a picture showing everything in the house, but rather just portraits of people is enough to describe the warmth and fuzziness in the living room.
They look so happy, don’t they?
There are fortune cookies.
Of all the delicacies being served (including specially bought and brought from Indonesia crackers, pictures missing from my camera !!) I gotta say the most interesting one would be the fortune cookie. We have all seen fortune cookies served with Chinese Food Take-aways in much commercialized American TV-shows, to be honest I have not actually seen and had one myself. I opened mine, ate the cookies, and there was the strip of paper with fortune inscriptions inside.
What did it say?
And guess who was the person I should find my happiness in, sitting next to me?
EEEEEEEEEK.. it was ALEX !! My happiness… ALEX… wearing red color shirt some more… EEEEEEEEK !!!!
Hmmmm, it did not say what “kind” of happiness, so I am guessing probably the fortune cookie was not lying either.
The house serves Starbucks Coffee !!
And the person who makes the coffee: Francis Ho !!
Kind and generous Francis took all the trouble to make us some coffee (it was late afternoon, perfect time for coffee) which actually tasted, really, really good, up to par with the standards of the local cafes I dare say. Of course, up till now, you cannot find Starbucks anywhere else in Kuching. Having good quality hot coffee with all those home-made CNY cookies and munchies, was really enjoyable, together with the warm ambience of the house, and wonderful company of Francis Ho !!
The place is so comforting and welcoming that a bird builds a nest nearby
Yeap, you have got that right, even birds are drawn to such a lovely home. There was a newly built nest in one of the trees nearby, with babies hatched from the eggs laid inside. Unfortunately the baby birds were lying flat in the nests, rendering it difficult to identify the body features. For better pictures and descriptions, go to Tarlia’s blog, or Unker’s blog entries.
Although my dream-house was no where near anything (since I am no fan of gardening and rivers) that is portrayed in that lovely house of Francis’, I must say that I do love the way he brings out the best out of his house, and the decors and designs were simply astonishing. Not many Kuching folks actually put that much care and effort in making the living in the house at such distinctive style, though some tried, but few achieved similar success.
Interior designs and nice homes. It will be quite a while before I can have those in my grasp.
Side note: I did not post up pictures of the entire interiors/rooms, and the full exterior around the house. It is not my house, and privacy is much treasured nowadays. It was already odd enough taking pictures around there and here !!
