PIzza oh Pizza

I know it has never been a fair comparison in whichever reference in Malaysia made with Australia, but I do feel like I have to say something about the pizzas at Pizza Hut, Malaysia. I have often mentioned how I find Pizza Hut rather unattractive, and of course, not worth the money at all. Pizzas in Malaysia are not cheap, and they certainly are not better than those you would expect from other places.

The weird thing is, some people refuse to believe my statement on how Malaysian Pizzas suck. Especially in East Malaysia, where we do not have other competitors like Domino, Pizza Hut basically dominated the local commercial pizza scene. Now please note that I have nothing against Pizza Hut, I still go there from time to time. What I do want to say is: there are many things that can, and should be improved. The operative phrase being "many things".

There are only so many words that I can use to prove my point, so let the pictures do the speaking themselves.

I need not label which is which, and you will surely be smart enough to discover which one of the couples is from Pizza Hut, Kuching, and the other one, an ordinary pizza from a local eatery in Perth.

Pizza A

Pizza B

Now lets take a closer look on a slice of each pizzas....

Pizza A

ONE small chunk of pineaple, few tiny shreds of chicken, and paper thin layer of cheese spread on top of the rigidly thick bread-crust. How appetizing.

Pizza B

Oooooooooh... count the pepperonis... look at the toppings dropping off everywhere.. and the cheese.. ohh

Now if you are so blatantly blind to not see the difference, you are beyond hope of salvation.

Again, this is an unfair comparison, yes, but still, my point remains, there are plenty to improve on. I am no Pizza expert, but you do not have to be one to tell how bad Pizza Hut is getting. Furthermore, the ever expensive pricing + 5% Gov tax and 10% service charge.... are just plain ridiculous.

And of course, you can always tell if the Pizza is enjoyable.

  7. I agree with you that Pizza Hut, despite being a well-known brand, does not live up to its name. Just had it on Sunday cos the kids wanted it. It was just too salty and lacked ingredients.

On the contrary, we prefer Pizza Haven in Boulevard Shopping Complex which has less customers but serves nicer pizzas and chicken wings.

Try it if you're in Miri! :-)

  9. hey wuching,

    hey unker !!
    we need competitors !!

    hey dancing queen,
wow, at least there are nicer pizzas in Miri !!! I will sure give it a try if I drop by in Miri...

    hey suituapui,
well, that is not a fair comparison at all. Lets try my way of looking at the prices. Over in aus, working in McD one hour you can earn AUD12 bucks minimum, in Kuching, you earn what, Rm2.50?? You will have to work for 3-4 hours in kuching before you can earn a full meal in McD, while in Perth, you work for one hour, you can have a nice decent meal already.
So, which one is cheaper you think? It is never fair comparing food prices with different currencies.

  14. Of course pizza here cannot have ham. Not halal and also ham is expensive. Just look at the ham, ham and more ham on the aussie pizza! In Australia, I never ever ever go to Pizza hut/haven/dominos. Value for money GENUINE italian pizzas are sold in the papas and mamas shops with their generous mountainous toppings. As I always say... pizza without ham is like having tantric sex.

  15. hey ex-aussie,
I have mentioned in one of my older entries that one of the reasons why pizzas in aus taste better is the pork in it. Oh well, setting that point aside, looking at the pictures on the above entry, I strongly believe a more generous amount og toppings and cheese would do pizza hut much better, regardless of pork.
